The Only Way is Essex!

Christmas Sleepover for 1st Aldershot Scout Group at Belchamps, Essex

Beavers, Cubs and Scouts from 1st Aldershot Scout group travelled to Belchamps Scout Activity Centre in Hawkwell, Essex in December 2019 for an active weekend with a festive twist.  The 2019 Christmas Sleepover at the Centre involved campfire singalongs, adventurous activities, fun and games and a visit from a very special guest (Santa!).

16 young people and their leaders headed out on the Saturday afternoon for a minibus ride over the M25 and through the Dartford tunnel arriving to a muddy site (although they were all prepared with welly boots and warm clothes).  The Scouters found their beds for the night and got ready for some active relay races in the sports hall followed by an evening campfire and supper.

The Saturday night campfire involved lots of singing and dancing near a very decorative Santa’s grotto.  Everyone shouted for Santa at the end and he appeared by the fire.  After greeting the excited crowd, he made his way to the grotto and everyone was invited in to meet him (each receiving a present!).  The group made their way back to the cabin after their exciting night and got involved in a game of pass the parcel (with giant sized wrapping!).

On Sunday, the youngsters took part in 10 various activities throughout the day which included Archery, caving, slingshots, Cork guns, pedal karts and fencing.  They especially liked the chance to get more wet and muddy in the assault course (most of them taking the muddy route!).  The day stayed warm for December with bright blue skies and happy Scouts all round.

The Centre had made a lot of effort to ensure everyone had a good time and were very organised with welcoming staff who were always happy to help and answer any queries.  1st Aldershot had already visited Belchamps this year during the Summer where they spent a week on camp in August, they had a very good time doing lots of different things throughout the week and were so impressed they decided to go back for Christmas and enjoyed it immensely.

The group are looking forward to more camps next year including their triennial visit to Abergavenny in Wales where they will enjoy a full week of activities by the river Usk. #1staldershotscouts
